Root and rhizome
Turmeric
A golden rhizome used fresh or ground for earthy flavour and vivid colour.

Field note
Turmeric is used in Nigerian kitchens within a wider global culinary history. This project treats it as relevant to contemporary Nigerian cooking without presenting it as uniquely Nigerian.
Research, not a remedy
Health research
Systematic reviews of randomised trials report that curcumin or turmeric supplements may improve some metabolic and inflammatory markers, but results and evidence quality vary. Trials generally use concentrated or enhanced-bioavailability products, not ordinary culinary turmeric, so supplement findings should not be presented as benefits of a spoonful used in food.
